Politics and the Crooks in Washington

The founding fathers formed a nation that was based on the principle of no taxation without representation.  They ensured that the government would always serve the needs and wants of the majority and that one branch could not take power over the nation.  Perhaps those of you who have never read the Constitution should take 10 minutes to read it.

Perhaps during the first 20 years or so after we were a nation, politicians might actually have served the public, keeping in mind the ideals upon which the country was founded.  However, as the country aged the politicians began to stray from the straight and narrow.  Personal egos and ambitions began to corrupt the Senators and Representatives.

Oh, okay--what I am getting to is how utterly corrupt and dishonest the politicians have been, still are, and they are getting worse.  They pass pay raises for themselves in the middle of the night.  They attach to bills up for vote a great number of perks that benefit themselves, their states or their major campaign contributors.  They have completely forgotten or have ignored the very fact that it is they who are supposed to be servants of the people.  Not vice versa.

The latest arrogance displayed by the Democrats in Congress is completely shameful.  They ignored the protests by the people.  They decided they were going to pass the health bill no matter what anyone outside of the Capitol building thought.  They did't give a damn about anyone or anything except passing that bill.  Their motto could very well be, "Damn the people! Full speed ahead!"

I am 62 years old and I am glad I am not a generation or two younger.  I remember what it was like growing up in the U.S. during the 1950's.  Comparing now to then I can only conclude this country is going to hell in a handbasket, as the cliche goes.  I truly feel sorry for people who will never know what America was like during the time I was growing up.  The country was a much better place back then for scores of reasons.

I feel a second revolution is brewing among disgruntled and disillusioned Americans.  I don't think I will live long enough to see it.  I don't think it will occur anytime soon, but I believe it is beginning to brew.  If the corruption continues in Washington, take heed, politicians.  One day Americans who still embrace the principles upon which this country was founded will kick all of you out and a new nation will arise; maybe a nation that won't be as great as the one we have now.

Politicians: you are where you are because you have been selected by the voters to represent and serve them.  You work for the people who elected you.  They don't work for you.  As my dad used to say, "Straighten up and fly right."  Mark my words.  Abandon your personal greed and aspirations.  Serve America or face the consequences of being voted out of office or, better still, being publicly humiliated by a scandal if you continue to serve yourselves.

God bless America as it was meant to be.  I don't want to be in this life when the second revolution arises.  I fear what results won't be as great as what was born from the first revolution.
